WE NEED A PRISON

Jailbreak
‎Good day Met n all bloggers,

I present to u a unique case of defending the indefensible in arguing for the prison.I‎n my mind it is fixed that it cannot be right that prisoners serve time n burden Jamaican taxpayers for crimes committed elsewhere! However in thinking outside the box I crave your indulgence to open your eyes to these facts.

The fundamental focus on this new prison will be based on Rehabilitation so that prisoners can reintegrate among us and make a meaningful contribution to society.Skills training, mentorship, life skills and even counseling will be core features of the new prison system. This is the core positive we all can agree on would be good for Jamaica’s development as it would enhance our socio-economic environment.

Let’s look at the alternative of not building the prison which is a negative of tremendous proportions ‎when you consider these factors as follows:

Many prisoners who are deported after their prison terms end rarely have the skills sets and connections to assimilate properly into Jamaican society. Thus their desperation causes them to do whatever it takes just to survive invariably leading to a life of a crime for some. This puts pressure on the social structures such as health and security to cope with the excess burden.

Some prisoners are hardened and even sophisticated criminals knowing only a life of crime. They have learnt first world crime techniques and our third world cops struggle to get a grip to keep up with the pace n sophistication of their crimes.

The Most critical fact in all of this is the devastating impact these deportees are currently having on our society. My basis for proving this is that I do some social work and it gives me a first-hand account as to what is happening “in the streets”.The police will also tell you that their official data confirms what I’m saying. Several of the major flare ups in violent areas are essentially turf wars.A man was the don and he migrates to the usa or Uk,a next man assumes the donmanship. However when the old don gets deported he wants back his turf and the new don won’t give it up without a fight.

Look no further than Spanish town situation and this is crystal clear! My fellow Jamaicans don’t you agree that the costs we are paying in lives losts, productivity loss, health costs and the destabilizing of our society, are already too high.Certainly they cost us more than 25billion pounds!

In closing even when we do the math it is beneficial to us.It is my understanding that the 5million pounds yearly the Brits are also giving can cater to the prison population up to 5 years! ‎This means we won’t have to rely on jamaican taxpayers to foot any expense as long as the transferred prisoner serves 5 years or less.I’ve not even bothered to get into the other benefits of modernization of the prison system, the human rights improvements for prisoners and the urban renewal of prime lands.

Never forget that the Criminal Malcom Little went to prison and reformed into Malcom X. No prison ok kool ,Britain just gonna send them back even earlier .So now think of all the havoc 600 hardened criminals ‎released on us will COST and even if it’s just 1 life lost bear in mind that could be you or your loved one.

Best Regards

  1. As long as the economic situation in Jamaica remains the same we are going to end up building several more prison. Instead of offering a prison why didn’t they offer to improve the economic situation in Jamaican by giving us reparations and then maybe we will not need a new prison.Give the people the tools so that they can improve their lives.
