The mystery of braid chopping continued with as many as eight such incidents coming to the fore from across the capital on Thursday. The police are still puzzled as all their efforts so far to identify and apprehend the miscreants have turned out to be futile.
Around 7 am, a family from West Delhi’s Mayapuri area called up the police and reported that four of its members found their braid chopped when they got up in the morning. Police reached the spot to find a woman, a BSES employee, and her three daughters aged 16, 13, and 12 years old sitting with their hair cut to size.
However, the family did not file an official complaint with the police in this regard. “Only if we receive a formal complaint, will we file an FIR, and the matter will be probed,” said a senior police officer.
In another incident, reported from outer Delhi’s Najafgarh, a woman sprang up on her bed when she felt some pain in her hair in the wee hours. Once awake, she found her chopped hair lying nearby, she told the police.
In a bizarre case, a 52-year-old woman has alleged that she woke up around midnight on Wednesday when she felt someone pulling her hair. Then she realised that her hair was chopped. Her family members then called up the police and filed a complaint. “The family members are being questioned and CCTV cameras from nearby houses are being checked to see if someone had entered their house,” an officer said.
A woman from the Begumpur area has alleged that when she had gone to answer the door bell, she did not find anyone; but as soon as she turned, someone caught her from behind and chopped off her hair. She has filed a complaint.
However, senior police officers have said that some people are making fake calls in this regard and not everyone is coming forward to file official complaints.
