A MAN from Makokoba in Bulawayo, who masqueraded as cop with an accomplice and raped a miniskirt clad woman, was yesterday remanded in custody to August 15 when he appeared at the Bulawayo Regional Court.
Denzel Chinamhora (40) was not asked to plead to robbery and rape charges when he appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Nyasha Kuture. His accomplice is still at large.
According to the State’s outline, on June 24 at around 2pm, Chinamhora and his accomplice met the 19-year-old woman from Entumbane at TM Hyper in the city centre.
The men introduced themselves as cops and told her that she was under arrest for public indecency as she was wearing a miniskirt.
They told the woman they were taking her to Luveve Police Station where there were cells for women that wore miniskirts.
The two allegedly produced a cellphone and showed the women photographs of a police officer and Chinamhora stated that he was sergeant and that was why he was putting on civilian attire.
The two then went to Egodini terminus and boarded a kombi to Luveve. They dropped off at the intersection of Luveve Road and Masiyephambili Drive.
The bogus cops told the woman that they were going to walk to the Luveve Police Station women’s camp.
They passed Emakhandeni Primary School and into the bushy area. They crossed the railway line and showed her a cellphone booster close to Masiyephambili Drive and told her that was where the police station was.
The other suspect ordered her to sit down while they contacted other officers to bring a vehicle.
They then asked her if she had ever met people that lived on blood and the woman said she had never met them.
The men then informed her they were such people and ordered her not to make a sound. They searched her handbag before taking $30 and her Samsung cellphone.
One of the suspects produced an okapi knife and threatened to stab her and ordered her to lie down before stripping her naked.
They raped her once and asked her how she felt and she just cried. They raped her again and then ordered her to dress up and leave.
She reported the case at Sauerstown Police Station and investigations led to the arrest of Chinamhora.
His accomplice is still on the run.
