My Husband Refuses To Give Me Feeding Allowance Anytime I Deny Him

A 33-year-old housewife, Rabiu Tosin, has asked an Ado-Ekiti Customary Court in Ekiti State to dissolve her 10-year-old marriage to her husband, Ayodeji over alleged frequent beatings and pubic disgrace.

According the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Tosin told the court that her husband was fond of beating her and that each time they fought, he threw her things out.

She stated that her husband had been beating her since she got married to him and that she had endured this long because she thought he would change.

“There was a time I went to the market and before I came back, he had packed some of my belongings out of the house.

“When I begged him to bring out the remaining things, he brought out a pipe and started beating me and seized my phone,” she said.

Tosin said she called her grandmother to intervene but that he locked the door against her when she came.

According to the plaintiff, the cause of their fight was mainly based on money, as he does not give them feeding allowance.

She added that whenever she refused him sex, he would not give her money to cook for the week.

The petitioner said that her husband had moved their children to his mother’s house, and expressed the fear that they would not be well taken care of.

Tosin, therefore, prayed the court to separate them and award her the custody of their three children.

Ayodeji, denied beating his wife constantly saying that he had only beaten her once.

According to him, his wife was temperamental and fond of fighting other tenants and their landlords, a situation which had made them to be ejected by their landlords on a regular basis.

He stated that his wife was also adulterous and that a woman had once fought her for dating her husband.

“I have never disgraced my wife. She’s the one who leaves the house any time we have disagreement, “he said.

Ayodeji said he was in support of divorce and prayed for the custody of their children.

The court president, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, adjourned the case till April 4, for judgment.
