A pregnant pupil miscarried after she was forced to do frog jumps by the Principal at Illinge Secondary School in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, SA.
The Principal was angry with pupils arriving at school late so he made them frog jump as a punishment.
The grade nine pupil who was five months pregnant had a miscarriage on the following Monday.
The girl’s aunt, Malefu Nchodu, said her niece, Lebohang Makafane (16), told her that she was in pain after the incident.
But she thought the pain would stop and attended all her classes.
When she got home the pain worsened until it was unbearable and she started to bleed.
Her cousin took her to Natalspruit Hospital where she was admitted.
A few hours later, doctors told her she had suffered a miscarriage.
Malefu said the incident made her angry because she had informed the school about her niece’s condition in March.
“The principal and his deputy thanked me for telling them about Lebohang’s pregnancy. They said they would inform her teacher and make sure they looked after her. But now the very same principal caused my niece to lose her baby,” said Malefu.
“It’s sad that she will face the tragedy of losing her baby for the rest of her life.”
The Education department’s spokeswoman Phumla Sekhonyane said the department would send officials to investigate and ensure the pupil is counselled.
