A Bulawayo man who is in remand prison for allegedly raping a 16 year-old girl last year, told a magistrate he was afraid of being sodomised in jail as other prisoners often tried to have sex with him.
Munyaradzi Nyoni (34) said his life was in danger as inmates had threatened to poison his food if he did not give in to their demands for sex, adding they proposed love to him in front of prison guards.
Provincial magistrate Willard Maphios Moyo ordered an investigation into the matter, saying sodomy was a crime, even in prison.
He further remanded Nyoni in custody in custody to April 8, although Nyoni begged him not to.
It is a common story from ex-prisoners that if a person gets incarcerated for rape, the entire prison population would have their way with him.
