MUTARE woman was left nursing both physical and humiliation wounds after she was bashed by her husband who had allegedly caught her red-handed with a boyfriend.
All hell broke loose after Joylene Munawa (35) was humiliated in public by her husband Thulani Cosmas Kuzuzu at a fast-food outlet along Second Street after she was caught enjoying a meal in the company of an unidentified man who took advantage of the melee to disappear from the scene.
Munawa’s wailing while pacing up and down Herbert Chitepo Street brought business to a standstill, with those in offices who were preparing to start the day’s work temporarily abandoning everything to be the first with the news.
Munawa, who is now staying in Chikanga high-density suburb, is said to have left her matrimonial home about three months ago claiming to be a victim of domestic violence at the hands of her husband.
She described Kuzuzu as an abusive man.
It is alleged that Kuzuzu is said to have received a tip-off that his wife was in the company of another man at a city food outlet. He then rushed to the place in a taxi and discovered the two love birds enjoying each other’s company.
Kuzuzu then dragged Munawa and assaulted her all over the body. She sustained deep cuts below the mouth and on the left cheek.
Having had enough of Kuzuzu’s blows, Munawa took to her heels and decided to seek refuge at a busy market place near The Manica Post offices.
A determined Kuzuzu was not done yet as he followed Munawa there and further assaulted her. She was only saved by the arrival of police officers.
Munawa later lodged an assault and theft claim against Kuzuzu at Mutare Central Police Station. She claimed that Kuzuzu had snatched her handbag which had $350 and identification cards before taking to his heels.
As she was making the report, her relatives stormed the police station and whisked her away. Police confirmed the incident and said investigations were in progress.
Witnesses who refused to be named described Munawa’s bashing as a lesson to other women.
