A WOMAN from Bulawayo allegedly ran amok and stabbed a love rival four times.
Zinhle Mhlanga, 22, of Old Pumula suburb, allegedly stabbed Sithandazile Mpofu, 22, of the same suburb three times on the back and once on the left shoulder after accusing her of having an affair with her boyfriend.
Mpofu is battling for life at Mpilo Central Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit following the vicious Monday attack, a court heard yesterday.
Mhlanga appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Sibongile Msipa Marondedze facing an assault charge.
Msipa Marondedze could not record Mhlangas plea as Mpofu is hospitalised and the medical report is still outstanding.
She remanded Mhlanga in custody to September 14.
Prosecuting, Margaret Muhomba said on Monday at around at around 9PM, Mpofu was in the company of her friend, Viola Mathe when Mhlanga approached them.
She said Mhlanga accused Mpofu of having an affair with her boyfriend but she denied the allegations.
“Mhlanga drew a knife and stabbed Mpofu three times on the back and once on the left shoulder and she sustained some deep cuts,” Muhomba said.
Mathe allegedly tried to rescue her friend but Mhlanga overpowered her.
The court heard how Mathe watched helplessly as Mhlanga stabbed her friend.
The matter was reported to Pumula Police Station and Mhlanga was arrested.
