an, 23, Docked Over Alleged Assault Of 2 Police Officers
A 23-year-old man, Boluwatife Timileyin, who allegedly assaulted two police officers, was on Tuesday brought before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 18 at about 3:30 p.m., at Orilonise area in Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the defendant conspired with others now at large to commit a felony, to wit: obstruction and serious assault on police officers.
He said that the defendant assaulted one Insp. Ehiosun Eghonghon and Insp. Taiwo Uwague, by holding their clothes while performing a lawful duty.
According to him, the defendant who is a member of an unlawful secret society called “Aye-e Confraternity” disturbed the peaceful atmosphere of Ile-Ife.
The prosecutor said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner that might likely cause the breach of public peace by smoking substance suspected to be hemp.

Osanyintuyi said that the offences contravened Sections 62(A), 249(d), 356(3) and 508 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to a four-count charge of conspiracy, assault, cult membership and breach of peace.
The defence counsel, Mr Samuel Obi, applied for the bail of the defendant in the most liberal term, pledging that his client would not jump bail.
Magistrate A. A. Ayeni granted bail of N100,000 to the defendant with two sureties in like sum.
Ayeni said that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, and reside within the court jurisdiction, and as well provide three recent passport photographs with each as part of bail conditions.
He adjourned the case until Sept. 22 for hearing.
