8 LOTTERY SCAMMERS TO BE EXTRADITED TODAY

Eight members of the Lavrick Willocks network who are wanted by the US Justice Department for lottery scamming are scheduled to be extradited today. They will be transported in a US military aircraft.

The eight individuals, one of them a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, were ordered extradited last month. US prosecutors say the Jamaicans were members of the network which fleeced more than US$5 million from persons in North Dakota in the lottery scam.

The US authorities submitted evidence of the Jamaicans collecting money at a Western Union outlets and recordings of them making calls to elderly Americans, who were the primary targets of the scam.

US prosecutors say they will be using the testimony of four cooperating members of the network to make their case. Willocks, the alleged mastermind, was extradited in February after he agreed not to challenge the US request for him. He has since pleaded not guilty before a US Court.
