Good day Met,
Western union has been behaving like a Monopoly for a very long time in Jamaica and we the people have little or no recourse for justice.Even by Western union own standards this is thievery what they are paying out using their OWN exchange rates!!I went to western union to pick up Canada and America payouts around close time periods.
The Canadian exchange rate wasn’t bad as they were paying out at $J98 although the official rate was $101,but $3 disparity is ok.Explain then why The official USD$ rate is $J136 and WU was paying out at $122,all of $14 huge difference??We are talking all of $1400 shortage to poor ppl on a $usd 100 transaction and it was the same branch too.The thing is Met if u were to check, all of the branches seem to be doing their own thing cuz not all branches had the same exchange rate, how comes when it’s one company?Who do we report our concerns to because this cant just a continue unabated like this.Ask anyone sending or receiving Money via Western union how fed up,frustrated and disgusted they are utilizing dem.
Western Union fi go suc dem mumma and left Jamaica, dem goal a fi hold dung poor people, a yesterday mi see somebody a complain seh she send money fi har brother and dem hold on pon it bout dem want know what him ago do with the money and want invoice fi whatever him a go buy, mi still a wonder if something can really go suh, dem a move like a dem a run Jamaica and when the backlash start guess who we’ll be attacking? Our own people who work for these motherfuckers! Mi have some money fi send soon and out a spite mi a use money gram whether dem rate higher or not, WU SYM!
Stop using them, them is criminal.
There is buying and selling rates. The banks buy the USD at 116 and sell at 137. There is a huge spread. But all the banks etc do it.
I wish more Jamaicans were technologically advanced. Family members overseas would have it so much easier to send money to people in jamaica. If I could Cashapp or Paypal my family it would make life so much easier, and they would get the official bank exchange rate. Many Jamaicans dont even have a bank account, much less Cashapp and Paypal. It can be so frustrating.
Cashapp is not available in the Caribbean.
Paypal is a pain
WU rates differ by state and day but generally higher than if you had the US cash to change.
Wire transfers are not instant.
Western union a teef.
A choo moneygram nuh deh all ova yet.
