Ex-Walsall-based Culture Club star hit out at Celebrity Big Brother boxer for saying homosexuality ‘ain’t normal’
Boy George has slammed Celebrity Big Brother housemate Evander Holyfield for claiming being gay “ain’t normal”.
The former Walsall-based Culture Club star hit out after the ex-heavyweight champ likened homosexuality to a handicap in a chat with fellow contestant Luisa Zissman.
George, 52, wrote on Twitter: “Shame, I had such admiration for Mr Evander Holyfield, he seemed dignified and I was sure he was a cool, smart, giant!”
The Karma Chameleon hitmaker, himself a former amateur boxer, later wrote: “I think anyone visiting this country for any reason should be cautioned and forced to swear allegiance to ‘Queens & country!!,” before adding: “At customs there should be a huge sign! Welcome to Britain, racism, sexism, homophobia and bad hair are not tolerated!”
US boxer Evander made his remarks during a conversation with Apprentice runner-up Luisa, who said that openness about sexuality was good “because it is normal”.
However, the born-again Christian shot back: “That ain’t normal”.
With Luisa suggesting that they should not have such a conversation, the Alabama-born ex-slugger insisted that he wanted to explain.
“If you were born and your leg were turned this way, what would you do? You go to the doctor and get it fixed back, right?” Holyfield said.
He continued: “All I’m trying to tell you, you know how handicap people are born?’’
And as Luisa said that the two situations could not be compared, Holyfield went on to maintain that sexuality is a choice before seeming unsure in his words. “Yes it is a choice,” he said.
He was later hauled into the Diary Room and reprimanded by Big Brother.
