WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — Four people were this morning arrested on suspicion after just under 800 kilograms of cocaine was seized in a joint police/military operation just off the coastline in Bluefields, Westmoreland.

The police say the four are Jamaicans.

Speaking to OBSERVER ONLINE Saturday, head of the police’s Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division Senior Superintendent Calvin Small confirmed that 798 kilograms of cocaine was seized. He said the illegal drug has an estimated street value of J$900 million.

The senior superintendent described the operation as a land and sea one, explaining that the security forces were alerted to a vessel and their operation eventually led them them to the beach in the Bluefields area of the parish.
