A massive fire last night razed a section of the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, disrupting flights and causing much unease in the resort city.

Sources told the Jamaica Observer that the fire began some time after 8:00 pm at AJAS Limited, an aircraft ground handling company. The ramp attendant crew room was totally destroyed.

Nine fire trucks — five from the St James Fire Department and four from the MBJ Emergency Response Team — managed to get the blaze under control about an hour after it started, following which the all clear was given for flights to and from the airport to resume.

Last night, efforts to get a comment from MBJ Airports Limited and the St James Fire Department were unsuccessful.
