A gardener who confessed to defrauding over J$200,000 from an auto company was sentenced to 18 months behind bars when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Fifty-four-year-old Fredrick Stewart, a resident of Border Avenue, St Andrew, was sentenced after pleading guilty to charges of forgery and obtaining goods by mean of forged document.

According to court documents, on September 26, 2014, around midday the accused visited an auto supplies and car store on Waltham Park Road and identified himself as an employee of the National Water Commission. He ordered fifty cases of Chevron 50 motor oil valuing $212,000.

It is alleged that he made payment with a forged cheque.

He was subsequently held and charged.
