JAMAICAN WOMAN IN TRINIDAD GRANTED BAIL AFTER 2 YEARS

It has been two years since Trinidad & Tobago-based Jamaican national Yanique Taylor-Gobin first appeared before the courts on allegations of assaulting an infant; however, she has only now accessed bail.

The matter was called Thursday before Justice Gillan Lucky in the twin island republic.

Taylor-Gobin was represented by attorney, and former Justice, Rajiv Persad.

After deliberations to the court, Justice Lucky granted bail at TT$100,000.

As conditions of her bail, she was also ordered to report twice a week to the St Joseph Police Station.

The matter is expected to be called again on December 20.

Taylor-Gobin, and her husband Dexter Gobin, of Rafferty Street, Maracas St Joseph, are both charged with two counts of willfully assaulting a child on May 17 and 24, 2015.

Dexter Gobin was granted bail at a previous hearing at $150,000 bail to be approved by a clerk of the peace.

However, his wife was denied bail for the past two years on grounds that she had overstayed her time in the country, and therefore was in Trinidad illegally when the allegations occurred.

The couple was arrested in October 2015, after a video of the child being beaten went viral.

In the video, the child was beaten by a man who force-fed her bottle of baby milk.
