LOOK YERE NUH…POLICE FREED OF MURDER CHARGE SMH

A policeman who was accused of the execution style killing of a suspect in front of his family nine years ago was freed yesterday before the St Catherine Circuit Court. Prosecutors conceded they did not have the evidence to connect Corporal Kenroy Watson to the fatal shooting.

In 2016, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), ruled that Corporal Watson and a colleague be charged with the murder of Albert Clarke in McCooks Pen, Spanish Town, St Catherine.

It was reported that a police team was searching for Clarke on October 12, 2009 in connection with serious crimes in St Catherine.

The police reported that he was killed during a shootout and a gun seized.

His family and residents of his community claimed he was taken out of his house by the cops who then shot him in the head.

However, at the trial, defence attorney Christopher Townsend challenged the evidence submitted by prosecutors.

He argued that the Crown could not connect his client to the shooting because the ballistics expert who tested the weapons assigned to the cops had resigned and migrated.

Townsend pointed to the testimony of the civilian witness who told the court that he could not identify the policemen.

The Crown agreed and offered no further evidence.
