There was excitement in York Town, Clarendon, this morning as bailiffs evicted deputy mayor of May Pen, Uphel Purcell, from his rented flat.
Purcell’s eviction follows a court ruling on August 2 that he vacate the premises by August 24.
However, Purcell did not move out and today bailiffs turned up, entered the premises and removed his belongings.
Scores of onlookers turned out to watch the personal effects of their five-time councilor thrown out into the rain.
When contacted, Councillor Purcell said he was shocked and that he wasn’t aware of an eviction notice.
He is vowing to take the matter back to court.
The eviction of Purcell follows years of litigation between the councilor and his landlord, Lewis Bramwell.
Bramwell claims he rented the premises to Purcell in 1997 but the councilor has not paid rent since 2008.
