NATIONAL RESERVE CALLED TO RESTORE CALM TO MOBAY

The St James police say calm has been restored to communities that have been affected by a flare-up of violence this week.

In addition, the police say the primary suspect and another man linked to the violence have been arrested.

Investigators have also seized a motor vehicle believed to be have been used in some of the shootings.

This comes after the imposition of a curfew and the deployment of additional police and military teams across the parish.

Yesterday, four persons were shot while standing at a business place on Hugga Lane in Norwood in the parish when armed men travelling in a white motorcar drove up and opened fire hitting them.

Hours later, four persons who were at another business establishment on the Glendevon main road, when a white motorcar — believed to be the same one involved in the earlier incident—drove up and again opened fire, hitting three men.

Meanwhile, National Security Minister Robert Montague, says increased security personnel in St. James will continue into the weekend.

He says the National Reserves have also been called out to boost the security presence in St James as well as in other hotspots across the island.

Montague also says he will continue to closely monitor the situation in Montego Bay and surrounding districts and he stands ready to provide further resources to the police.
