Two men killed in confrontation with Hanover police

Two men were fatally shot during a reported confrontation with the police in Hanover on Thursday night.

They have been identified as Gawayne Muir otherwise called “Broady” and Nicholas Scarlette alias “Nick”, both of Mount Peace in the parish.

The police report that shortly after 11pm, the police were responding to reports of gunmen being in the community of Kew when they signalled a car to stop.

Men reportedly alighted the vehicle and opened fire on the police. Both men were fatally shot and a nine milimetre pistol with five rounds seized.

A third suspect escaped.

Investigators say Muir was recently taken into custody for the abduction and murder of his girlfriend, Patrice Porteous who was reported missing on February 13.

Two weeks later her body, which had bullet wounds, was found.

Muir, who was reportedly associated to the One Link Gang in Hanover, was released from custody pending further investigation into the case.
