It does not appear that she was with him. She was leaving the hospital and looking about leaving the island. Perhaps had she filed charges, but he likely would have gotten bail. Perhaps disappearing and hiding at a safe house until she left is what could have saved her, but nothing is for sure when dealing with someone who deeply desires to end your life.
Safe houses are so important and women have to look out for each other. I feel terrible for this young woman and her lived ones, nobody deserves this. Even women who choose to live celibate lives without men are not safe because if the woman is financially secured and attractive these men feel entitled to her time and body. I don’t know what will truly protect women from men. It is a global problem that is so deep and cut across all class lines. We are neither safe as girls, nor are we safe as women.
