The Foot of pride.
The word feet and foot are almost always symbolic of power and authority throughout the Holy Bible. It is also an indicator that whatever is under the feet of something or someone it is also subject to it.
A few examples of this could be found in the following scriptures: Psalm 8:6 which states, Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet. Psalm 47:3 says, He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet. Also Psalm 18:38 says, I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet.
In all the above scriptures it is clear that the expression of the word feet suggest subduing, possessing authority over something or someone or the mere exercising of power and control.
With this understanding in mind, I began to analytically scrutinize Psalms 36:11, which says, “Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me”.
Just prior to our scrutiny of this passage let us come to an understanding of the word pride, in an effort to gain an expanded sense of the entirety of this scripture. Pride is defined as: a high or inordinate opinion of one’s own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in conduct, etc.
So, in this scripture David the author seems to be asking God not to let the power of pride to control or subdue him. In simple terms the foot of pride is actually the power of self! Even though rarely admitted pride has incorporated in itself a power to not only possess an individual, but make him/her believe that they are above others, they’re subject to no one and everyone else must bow to them.
I am of the view that when the spirit of pride enters someone, their entire way of thinking changes for the worst. In that their thoughts are mainly about self and become superior to the thoughts, feelings, opinions and ideas of others.
The foot of pride automatically makes one a controller and an oppressor. Reason being, their ideas, thoughts opinions and feelings are the only one that matters and should be acted upon. So the best way to execute this must require the ability to gain absolute power, and oppress the opinions, thoughts, feelings and ideas of others. The bible tells us that pride is accompanied with shame, according to proverbs. 11:2. this is so because no one person knows everything, therefore error now becomes the inevitable for the one that is under the power of pride. Surprisingly, whenever the spot light is removed from this person, they become child like in their behavior and do everything in their power to direct all attention back to them. Their favorite tools to achieve this objective are: manipulation, intimidation and ultimately domination.
The above three tools when wrapped up into one produces the term witchcraft, witchcraft in its simplest understanding is the ability to make others do what you want them to do via manipulation, intimidation and domination. This principle is applicable in the natural and spiritual sense, and is most successful for those that operate under the influence of the power of pride. Unfortunately these folks become very dangerous because they will stop at absolutely nothing to win or achieve. Their sense of shame and the views of others have no basis; therefore what is clearly foolish to the world makes complete sense to them again, because it’s all about winning for them.
Only by pride comes contention, Proverbs 13:10. I was surprise when I discovered this scripture, because it’s suggesting that the root cause of all contention is pride. So, the obvious solution would be to remove the foot or power of pride and contention will cease. Folks that possess this spirit are literally bound with spiritual chains, Psalms 73:6 which imply that they are physically free. However, mentally imprisoned by their selfish high minded ideas and opinions, which incidentally leaves no room for the thoughts and ideas of others.
King Solomon said, “In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride and this same pride will make the path clear for their destruction” Proverbs 14:3, 16:18. Those that refuse to resist or do away with the power or the foot of pride has simultaneously unknowingly agreed to a life filled with unfavorable and disgraceful events. What’s even worst is they’re securing a generational curse for their future generations. Our bible tells us that every seed produces after its kind. Further, no good tree can bring forth bad fruit and no bad tree can bring forth good fruit. Folks that radiate this type of prideful behavior most likely inherited it from their family lineage. Or has allowed some past hurt in their life that was never forgiven to in due course form a rot of bitterness and eventually conceive pride.
The work place has always been a nest for the foot of pride to run its course. Many employees and co-workers have been victims of this stubborn evil. However what I have also discovered aside from pride being the core of contention on the job and else where it is also the subliminal instigator of jealousy. Jealousy always arises when one feels that they should have the best or be the best than those around them. When this sense of inferiority begins to surface in the pride filled person, intense jealousy is the next move by them by means of victimization, condescending words, the spreading of rumors etc. all in an effort to devalue the person they’re jealous of.
I have witness folks by way of pride, left their jobs, spouses, family etc. only to be brought to shame and disgrace in the end. Again, King Solomon said, “A man’s pride shall bring him low”, but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit. We are also told by the bible that God resist the proud. The word resists means to oppose, withstand or strive against. I think it’s safe to say God wants no communication with the proud, because just like Satan, he will eventually reject God’s plan and want to implement his own.
My dear readers, I beg you to re-evaluate yourself and ask God to assist you in ascertaining if the foot of pride has come upon you. This is vitally important because you could possibly be behaving in a way that may seem wise to you but unwise to others. Pride is a deceiving conniving spirit, that makes one believes that they are always right, causes you to behave unseemly, and consistently reject proven sound advice. These are all the perfect ingredients for failure, with a topping of shame and disgrace.
Many today only wish they had dealt with this pride issue prior to their demise, and I am sure there are some right now that are reading this article that have experience the demands that the foot of pride has place upon them, only to reap a harvest that was far below their expectations.
In this same psalm 36, the 9th verse made reference to something that I though was quite remarkable. It says, “For with thee (God) is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see more light.
It is my prayer that you immerse yourself in the fountain of life which is the word of God, and in his light which is life (John 1:4) you will receive and achieve a greater understanding of the life he has purposed for you.
Heavenly father, thank you for being the light of the world. This day I stand in the authority given to me by you to subdue the foot of pride in every reader of this article. I command the spirit of pride to leave your people and to be instantly replaced with the spirit of humility. Thank you father, because according to faith I am convinced that every spiritual chain that has held them bound has been broken in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ. Amen!

Good Afternoon Metty & JMG family. Thanks for the Word of God. Amen!
I have just come across this article because I needed to check up on “foot of pride”. Many times I was led to read Psalms 36 and verse 11 always stood out and tonight again, it stood out and for the first time, I’m taking a closer look. Before “googling” it I prayed for quite a while about the foot of pride (not from an enemy but from me). I realized one may actually posses the foot of pride which can be self destructive and still not realize it inspite
of being a child of God. The foot of pride makes one walk away from opportunities, relationships, etc. I prayed that the years, opportunities, relationships, etc that the foot of pride may have robbed me of be restored.
Can you also say some prayers for me too? Thanks.
