THE police have once again increased their presence in West Kingston following the killing of a man on Regent Street in the area.

The police said that approximately 9:00 am Ricardo Kelly, otherwise known as Duke, was shot and killed by hoodlums who were travelling in a motor car. The sped off as Kelly’s bullet-riddled body fell on the sidewalk.

Kelly, the Jamaica Observer learnt, had just returned from the Denham Town Police Station, where he was ordered to make regular appearances as a condition of his bail. He had a matter before the courts and was released on bail last December.

His killing caused much grief in the community yesterday.

“Have mercy, dem kill ‘Duke’!” shouted a relative of the dead man

“This is the third son the family is losing to gun violence. How can people be so cruel?” screamed another family member.

Also on the scene were the victim’s parents, Michael Kelly and Lemona Lynch, who wept openly.

Yesterday, the police said that their presence in the area was necessary to avert any reprisal killing.
