OLIVER ROAD INVADED BY GUNMEN

Police probing invasion of Oliver Road community by gunmen

The Kingston East police are probing an incident in which armed thugs invaded the Oliver Road community on Wednesday leaving one man dead and residents more fearful.

It is reported that about 30 gunmen, carrying high powered weapons, kicked off doors and stole appliances as well as other valuables from residents.

They shot up vehicles and homes during the invasion.

The dead man has been identified as 20 year old Andgel Henry from the community.

His body reportedly found in a church yard.

Another man was shot and is in hospital.

Close to 300 spent shells were recovered from the scene by the police.

Phillip Paulwell, Member of Parliament for East Kingston and Port Royal, and Councillor for the Norman Gardens Division Angela Brown-Burke, visited the community with the police on Wednesday.

On Saturday, residents of Norman Gardens had reported sustained gunfire for several hours.

They believe the conflict involves rival gangs from Oliver Road and Jarrett Lane.

Deputy Superintendent Christopher Brown, Crime Chief for the Kingston East Division, confirmed that the conflict involves gangs.

However, he told RJR News on Thursday morning that investigators have not pinpointed the cause of the conflict.

“That is what we are doing – investigating to identify what are the root causes, because we believe that if we are able to sufficiently get what is causing the violence, then we should be able to be in a better position to put preventative measures and to treat with it appropriately,” he declared.

He said while the residents are cooperating with the police, the security forces will be keeping a close watch on the community.
